Expert Advice for When Stress Interferes with Work

When you have a bad start to the day, do you find yourself unable to shake it off? Think what that does to your work product and efficiency…not to mention what it does to your sense of well-being.

Employee engagement training experts need to worry about such situations. They are charged with keeping employees satisfied and focused on their jobs. They offer some sage advice on how you can overcome that traffic jam, bad news and family argument that took away the positive outlook you had as you began the morning.

  • Take Control.  Recognize that you have a choice…to focus on the negative or on the positive.
  • Focus.  Identify a task that you can control in the short-term and do it.
  • Breathe deeply. A few deep breaths throughout the day can do wonders.
  • Watch your diet. Caffeine, especially on an empty stomach, exacerbates stress. Eat healthy and exercise regularly.
  • Filter the news. Don’t listen to reports of disasters and crime. It will only depress you. Instead seek out good company or a good book…an activity that will bring you joy and laughter.
  • Find the Bright Spots.  Spend your energy not on thinking about the worst but considering what IS going right.
