There’s a new report out that would suggest just what Bobby McFerrin’s song recommends: don’t worry, be happy.
Recent research by employee engagement training specialists has a very interesting implication for new hires or employees shifting to a new team. It states that your attitude when you first join a new group can have a significant impact on the way you are viewed by the others. And not just for the short term. Apparently your status in the group can be affected by your initial attitude for a long time after you join.
If you are eager to belong to the new group, your status will be much greater than if you begin on a sour note. If you show your enthusiasm and pleasure in your new position, your team mates are likely to welcome you with similar feelings.
What a positive way to encourage and foster employee engagement…from the very beginning.
