Employee engagement experts tell us that happiness has a very important role to play in
running a successful business. This is not about creating a “playground”
mentality where there is open-ended enjoyment with no objective other than
having fun. The kind of happiness that keeps employees engaged is one that
derives from being involved in something meaningful, feeling as though they are
contributing to the common goal, and working on a team built on mutual trust
and respect.
Take
a close look at your team and try to determine what keeps team members motivated and committed. Do they enjoy their co-workers? Do
they feel they are doing something important? Is their job well suited to their
interests and talents? If not, do what you can as a leader to improve their
situation.
Happy,
engaged workers don’t keep their feelings to themselves. Their positive
attitude expands to envelop others on their team. The happier your workers are -
the more creative, productive and dedicated they will be. That is why happiness
belongs in the workplace.
